Troops kill 30 terrorists, lose 2 men; free 198 hostages

Following massive air and land onslaught by Nigerian Airforce aircraft and soldiers of the Nigerian military, no fewer than 30 Boko Haram terrorists have been killed in several operations carried out in the North East to rid the area of remnants of the terrorists.

In the ensuing battles that took place, two Civilian JTF members who accompanied the troops lost their lives, 198 captives made up mostly of women, children and the elderly who had been held hostage for months were rescued while several arms and ammunition belonging to the terrorists were recovered.

Giving details of the operation on Friday, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman said, “in continuation of clearance operations of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists, troops of 7 Division in Operation LAFIYA DOLE have been making tremendous progress in their various areas of operational responsibilities.

“They were able to carry out clearance operations, raids and patrols that resulted in the killing of  many suspected Boko Haram terrorists, arrests and rescue of persons, as well as recovery of arms and ammunitions.

“On Thursday, 21st April 2016, troops of 21 Brigade Nigerian Army carried out clearance operations at Bulari, Tori 1, 2 and 3 during which they successfully cleared the general area of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.’’
