The ancient kingdom of Achalla in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Wednesday, celebrated the 20 years on the throne of their traditional ruler, Igwe Ezeoba Alex Nwokedi. The monarch ascended the throne as Uthokoneze of Achalla Kingdom on April 21, 1996.
Nwokedi between 1996 that he was installed and now has served as Chairman Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chairman of the Eastern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Forum. Igwe Nwokedi, is a veteran and key factor in the Nigerian journalism community starting off his career as sports writer, editor and rose to become Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The astute journalist rode on the ladder of journalism to become the Press Secretary to the Head of State during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo and was temporarily Press Secretary to President Shehu Shagari before moving to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as General Manager, Public Affairs. He remains in history as first Public Relations Manager of Electricity Corporation of Nigeria (ECN) which later became NEPA, PHCN before the power sector was sold by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
