BARELY five months to the 2016 Rio Olympics, Chief Coach of the National U-23 team, the Dream Team VI, Samson Siasia says he is waiting for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to conclude arrangements for the team to begin camping.
Siasia who spoke to journalists in Abuja yesterday said it is important for the team to begin camping because the championship is huge task which needs every amount of preparation.
“Already I have submitted my programme to the NFF, I hope they are waiting for the approval of the Ministry of Sports so I don’t know how long we have to wait but if we have to wait for another week, and that will be another month gone.
“You know that Olympics is a very tough tournament because it is not in the FIFA programme so it is not always easy to secure the release of the players. We have started making contacts but you will know who will come until the tournament starts. We are trying to get the commitment of the clubs because if not you may get some players for friendly games but during the main event they will not be available.”
The former Super Eagles striker further revealed that a number of quality friendly matches have been lined up for the team adding that such will give him the opportunity to evaluate the players.
Siasia also hinted that he has spotted some boys plying their trade abroad whom he has pencilled down for a possible taste of the global championship.
