PORT HARCOURT : Octogenarian mother of the Rivers state Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs Patience Tam-George has been kidnapped in Okrika.
The distraught Commissioner of Information, Dr Austin Tam-George told the Vanguard on phone that his 85 year old mother was whisked away by unknown gun men at George Ama area of the ancient Okrika town while on her way back from church on Saturday evening.
He said the kidnappers contacted an uncle with the aged mother’s phone demanding for thirty million naira ransom, adding that they also allegedly condemned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the state for lashing at their action.
“They have made contact with the family using her phone demanding N30 million for her release. They condemned the PDP for “challenging ” them. Her name is Patience Tam-George, she is 85 years ,” he said.
Continuing, the Commissioner who sounded very disturbed by the development said the mother had some health challenge, pleading that she should be released.
When asked if he would raise the N30 million to secure her release the Commissioner, Dr Tam-George said he could not imagine where he would raise such a huge amount, thus appealing passionately for her release.
“I am begging those holding my mother illegally to please release her. She is not too fine. Please they should release her, ” he pleaded.
He said he was outside the state on an official assignment when he heard of the kidnap.
When contacted for comment, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad said the Police was aware of kidnap of a lady in the area but was not sure if she was the mother of the commissioner of Information, adding that effort was on to rescue the person kidnapped.
