Tribunal: Umeh, Ekwunife know fate today

By Vincent Ujumadu

Awka—THE Anambra State national election petition tribunal sitting in Awka will today deliver judgment in the petition filed by the candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for Anambra Central senatorial zone, Chief Victor Umeh challenging the declaration of Mrs. Uche Ekwunife of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as the winner of the election.

Counsel to all the parties in the petition adopted their written addresses last month after which the tribunal adjourned  indefinitely.

However, there were reports yesterday that the tribunal had contacted the parties, informing them of today’s judgment.

During the tribunal’s sitting, Umeh tendered polling unit results, otherwise known as Forms EC8A1, ward to ward results, otherwise known as Forms EC8B1, constituency collated results known as Forms EC8D1 and declared result sheets or Forms EC8E1, claiming that from the results collated, he won the election.

He also tendered Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, electoral guideline for primary election of 2014, a letter dated November 4, 2014, which was received on November 5 and addressed to Chief Umeh as winner of the APGA party primary election, among other documents.

Led in evidence by his lead counsel, Mr. Patrick Ikwueto, SAN, Umeh said that after analysis of the polling booth results, it was found out that anomalies took place, adding that if everything was properly articulated, the evidence would show that he won the election.

The former APGA national chairman said that what he wanted to show was that INEC, having admitted making mistakes in the collation of the results, he (Umeh) won, if the authentic collated figures were announced.
