Former FIFA Executive Committee member, Dr Amos Adamu has expressed surprise at the sudden retirement of Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike from international duties. Adamu, however, admitted that “players come, players go and young ones take over.”
While he agrees that a coach has the right to drop or replace a player from the team, there should be a proper way of doing that.
“If you are dropping a player from the team, he must not get to hear it from the press first. He too should not react to media reports before getting to hear from his coach.
“Senior players are needed in the team in order that the younger ones will learn one or two things from them. There are matches the coach may need them. You ease them out gradually, bench them and use them sparingly so that the younger ones can learn from their wealth of experience,” Adamu said.
