ASABA—Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Delta State, has said the party would not lose sleep over the recent defection of former Chief of Staff, COS, to the State Government, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, and two former Commissioners, Misan Ukubeyinje and Mr. Ebifa Ijomah, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Speaking to reporters at Asaba, its Chairman, Chief Edwin Uzor, said: “The development is no big deal and does not pose any threat to us as a party that has positively touched lives, including those of the decampees. The decampees have only succeeded in exposing themselves as political jobbers, prostitutes and fair weather politicians who believe they must be in government at all cost. These same persons who did not contribute anything to the victory of the APC at the centre have suddenly realized that Delta State must not be in the opposition even when the APC did not win one local government area in the state in the last general election.
“Why did they not join the APC when the party was in opposition. It all goes to suggest that they are selfish politicians who are only concerned with what they stand to gain from the system, rather than what they can give to it.”
He claimed Akpeki had been rejected by his people in ward 4, unit 7 of Sapele local government area, where he claimed to come from, while Ebifah Ijomah, appointed commissioner because of the influence of his father, Prof B.I. C. Ijomah, is a political apprentice and Ukubeyinje, a failure as commissioner.
