ASABA—ELECTION Petitions Tribunal sitting in Asaba, Delta State, yesterday dismissed the petition brought before it by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Delta Central Senatorial District election, Mr. Halims Agoda, challenging the victory of Senator Ighoyota Amori in the 2015 polls.
The tribunal held that Amori of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was duly elected in the election held on March 28, to represent the senatorial district.
Delivering his judgment, Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Muhammed Umar, said the petition lacked sufficient proofs, saying Agoda was unable to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt.
While saying that the petitioner was unable to satisfy the burden of proof, Justice Umar said Agoda’s inability to properly address his case as provided for in the Electoral Act, as amended, had hampered his petition.
Agoda had dragged Amori to the petition tribunal, alleging that the exercise was riddled with fraud.
