The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2016 Olympic qualifying match between Nigeria’s U-23 team and their Congolese counterparts, Hon. Boma Iyaye has assured both teams and fans coming to the stadium of maximum security during the encounter on Sunday.
Iyaye, who gave the assurance in Part Harcourt during a press briefing, assured that Rivers State Government in their usual traditional style is determined to give their best to ensure a memorable match with all the associated drama, passion and wonderful atmosphere that could be obtainable anywhere in the world.
He explained that adequate security and logistics have been put in place for a hitch-free match, just as he called on all football fans to come out en masse to cheer the dream team to victory.
The LOC chairman noted the importance of the administration of Governor Wike towards sports, says the governor is determined to re-launch Rivers State on the map of sports development in Nigeria.
The match which is billed to be played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium on Sunday, 19th July, 2015, has the gates of the stadium thrown open for spectators from 11am.
Iyaye explained that there will be a free transportation at different points in the city to convey fans to the stadium. While commen-ting on the contribution of Governor Wike for agreeing to host the match, he thanked the governor for the support given to the local organizing committee to ensure that there is adequate arrangement.
The members of the local organizing committee comprises seasoned sports administrators, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka; Sir Opunabo Inko-Tariah, Mercy Akide Udoh, Eddy Mark, Christopher Green, Honour Sirawoo and Albert Chinwo.
