Toke Makinwa‎ with YouTube channel tokemoments; Techcityng, a group of youths with interest on new gadgets; Naijacraziest‎, a group with interest on comedy skits, among others.

IMG_20150625_183957Speaking at the event, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications & Public Affairs Manager for Google in West Africa‎, said the programme was put up to showcase individuals who are behind the videos watched and shared on YouTube.

Ogunlade, who advised Nigerians to seize the free opportunity given by google for individuals to share their experience through video contents on YouTube, however, stated that “on YouTube, you don’t do it alone, you share advice with people who can help contribute meaningfully to your cause.‎”

Sharing her experience on YouTube, Akinbobola, a lawyer and mother of two said with Youtube you can gather a lot of experience and be yourself, stating that on YouTube, I talk about relationship dynamics,

She said: “I have in the past did videos on YouTube on how to spy on your nannies, I have also done videos on parenting. But you know what, the views I get on my channel aren’t up to 5, 000. But when I don’t box my self, and do freestyle videos, amazingly, I get over 100,000 views.”

Speaking on some of her videos on sex and relationship, which had come with barrage of criticisms, she said: “Well, my channel is not for babies, but for adults. Most times when I talk about sex, people tend to look at me as if‎ it’s a no-go-area, But as a married woman, this is something I do, even, people who are not married do this. So, why do we shy away discussing it?”

Asked how she reacts to hate comments about her videos, particularly those on sex, Akinbobola said: “I pay attention to comments on my channel, including the hate comments. But what I do is reply with love because I think for somebody to visit my channel, they have a problem especially relating to sex and marriage.”

Also speaking, ‎Adibua said he got his inspiration while he was growing up in the United Kingdom, adding that when he got back to Nigeria, he was employed at age 17 to work with the NTA 5 on contract.

The co-founder of Storm Records and one of the chief brains behind Big Brother Nigeria, said he has helped to discover thousands of talents in Nigeria.

According to him, among those he helped to boost their careers, especially through the Big Brother Nigeria were ‎popular musicians such as D-Banj, Eldee, Styplus among others.

Among other things, Adibua however advised rising radio and tv personalities to be careful about what they say on air, so as not to run afoul of the laws of the country.

“When you are on radio for instance, you have an instant power. I’ve several times paid fines to the National Broadcasting Commission. But why do I have pay this much to them, when th‎ey are richer than me.”

His parting words for rising on-air-personalities is that they should read wide. “I tell young people to read a lot, because not reading wide is their problem. They don’t read, they believe presentation is just all about sitting in front of the camera. If you must succeed in this business especially in the global scale, you have to read about different things going on within your locality and around the world.

However, on their part, the brains behind Naijacraziest, advised Nigerian youths to utilize the free opportunities given by YouTube, to create video contents that can be monitised.

“Our advice is that Nigerian youths should start now. Don’t wait for a time when you have a big camera. You can use your smart phones to start now,” they advised.

For‎ Makinwa, if you are passionate about something you can hit it big, adding that she picked interest in creating video contents relating to what guys and girls discuss among their friends everyday.
