Nigerians want to return to production — Gov Oshiomhole
By Bashir Adefaka
THE All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, kicked off its zonal rally in Sokoto, Sokoto State with inauguration of Northwest Zone Committee, at a very elaborate gathering attended by well meaning Nigerians in the party, including the chairman and former Governor of Edo State, Chief John Odigie Oyegun; Governor of Kano State, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdul-Aziz Yari; Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, PGF, and Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole and other leaders of the party. They were hosted by the Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Inaugurating the Northwest Zone leadership, the APC Chairman, Oyegun, said, “My job here is brief and it is to inaugurate the Northwest Zonal Committee and leadership of the APC. Therefore, in my capacity and responsibility today, September 8, 2014, I declare that the Northwest Zonal Committee of this party is hereby inaugurated.”
Oyegun had earlier distinguished between the transformation of the PDP-led Federal Government and the change a APC-led Federal Government would bring. He said, “Transformation is different from change. Look at the result of transformation. When they transformed the economy, there were no jobs and factories closed down. When they transformed security, we are almost losing the entire North east and when they transformed health, they brought Ebola.
“If they then ask you what we stand for, tell them to go to Sokoto State and they will see what we stand for. Tell them to go to Kano, Zamfara, Imo and they will see what we stand for.”
The APC chairman, therefore, charged the newly inaugurated Northwest Zonal leadership, whose details were not announced, with the responsibility of delivering the Kano’s over five million votes and votes of other Northwest states for APC come 2015. He added that, “Northwest Zone is critical to the victory of APC. And I want to repeat it, Northwest is critical to the victory of APC.”
Earlier in his welcome address, Wamakko said, “Nigerians are tired of bad governance. I am confident that we will win good governance back for Nigerians come 2015. APC is determined to win.”
Governor Yari of Zamfara State, noted that it was no longer a tale by the moonlight to say that the Northwest was APC zone but that, “Today, we can see that it is a reality. No doubt that Northwest is APC and we will win 2015 elections because Nigerians are taking records of democracy in the past 15 years and they know what they party in power has done.” We are going to win to bring security and all the good things of development back to the domain of Nigerians.”
