LAGOS—As part of moves to compliment the federal and Lagos State governments’ efforts against the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, in the country, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, has distributed hand sanitizers to communities.
Ashafa, who represents Lagos East senatorial district, also stressed the need for people to be vigilant on preventive measures.
He gave the donation and advice during the weekly empowerment programme for constituents in the senatorial district.
Ashafa said: “It is unfortunate that the dreaded disease has found its way to our beloved country at this trying time.
“I implore you to avoid drinking hot water with salt and bitter kola as antidote against Ebola.
“I will implore Nigerians, especially the people at the grassroots to always avoid contact with high risk animals like fruit-bats, monkeys and forest antelopes. It is also best, in the meantime, to avoid the consumption of bush meat, and refrain from contact with infected persons.”
“We should cultivate the habit of washing our hands with soap always, and above all, we should not hesitate to report persons whom we suspect to have the Ebola virus to the nearest health centre immediately “.
Ashafa extended his good gesture by donating free bottles of hand sanitizers to all those who attended the empowerment programme and urged them to maintain the highest degree of personal hygiene at all times.
Beneficiaries were selected from Somolu, Kosofe, Ikorodu-Central, Ikorodu-North, Ikosi-Ejinrin, Ikosi-Isheri and Surulere.
They were presented with various tools and equipment such as sewing machines and tailoring accessories, vulcanizing machines, deep freezers, refrigerators, power generating sets, hair dryers and salon accessories, grinding machines, aluminium cutting machines and welding machines.
