Abia group backs Jonathan, Orji, tasks elected Abia officials

A socio-political organisation, Friends of Uko Nkole Ndukwe in Abia state has tasked elected Abia officials at the National Assembly to work for their electorate.

The group also canvassed for the reelection of President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor  Theodore Orji as Senator.  It also asked one of its members, Mr. Uko Nkole to contest for the  House of Representatives for the Aro/Ohafia federal constituency.

Speaking in Umuahia, Abia  state during the handover of six vehicles to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officials in the constituency, the group’s director general, Mr. Ofem Kalu, said having realized the failure of the constituency’s representatives to provide amenities for the Abia North Senatorial Zone and Aro/Ohafia federal constituency, it has been organising the peopole into a self help and has also been providing some basic amenities to the people.

According to Kalu, the group has repaired some bridges such as the the River Muri bridge whicn joins Ohafia and Abam, building homes for widows, providing entrepreneurial skills for the people among others.

Kalu said his group wants Nkole to vie for the Aro/Ohafia federal constituency job as he has been working for his community with his own resources, adding that if he can help his people privately,, he will be do better as a representative.

To realize this, the friends, he said, have been making consultations with the monarchs,   prominent people, political leaders, trade organizations etc in the area.

His group, he said has members spread across the country, USA, Europe and South Africa and they channel whatever help they can render to the community through the friends.

“We know he will success. The belief is implicit. We only came to him with the structure to use. He will do better than others. He is a federal servant. That’s is why are persuading him to lead us as he is afraid of Nigeria’s unsteady political turf.”

The group’s support for President Jonathan’s 2015 ambition, code named Goodluck to Goodluck(G2G) is aimed at continuing Jonathan’s vision by working for his reelection, he noted.

Ofem listed Jonathan’s strides in the economy; Nigeria’s unity in spite of the insurgency; his symbol that any part can rule the country and for ensuring press freedom in the country and absence of political assassinations as reason for backing him. He also noted Orji’s fight against kidnapping; legacy, empowerment and transformation of Abia.

Some of the political personalities and beneficiaries at the event included Chief Obinna Nwankwo, PDP chair, Aro LGA, with his Ohafia LGA counterpart, Mr. Kingsley Imaga, Ogbuji O. Ogbuji, David Iro, youth leader, Madam Obobi, Mrs Grace Chijioke, Women Leaders, Livinus Ezelu, Mba Akuma, Ugochukwu Okorie, Okorie Ndem Okpi, Chief Amogu Anya, youth leaders, principal officers of the PDP in the state, among others.
