Anxiety over the political  direction of erstwhile governor of the state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola was at feverish pitch Monday with claims that he would be defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on Tuesday.

Oyinlola it was learnt is expected to defect at the scheduled mega rally of the APC in Osogbo tomorrow.
Contacted on the development , Oyinlola told Vanguard over the telephone “you will get the action tomorrow (Tuesday).” Pressed further, he said: “You will get the action tomorrow. I can confirm to you that it is true”.

The PDP in the state was, however, dismissive of the development describing it as inconsequential.
The state Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Bola Ajao said “the PDP will win the governorship election in the state whether Oyinlola leaves the party or he remains there,” adding “we are not bothered with the defection of Oyinlola.”

Oyinlola was said to have met with the leadership of the APC and his expected to defect to the party alongside his supporters in all the 30 Local Government Areas of the state.

The former governor was conspicuously absent at the campaign rally of the PDP where President Goodluck Jonathan and other national leaders of the party including the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu addressed the gathering.

Oyinlola was seen in Osogbo yesterday in a motorcade after he had reportedly met with some of his loyalists and some APC leaders in the state.

Oyinlola was Governor of Osun state from 2003 to November, 2010 when Governor Rauf Aregbesola took over from him following a judgment of the Court of Appeal which nullified Oyinlola’s re-election in 2007.

He later contested for the post of the PDP National Secretary and won but was later suspended and replaced by Professor Wale Oladipo who is also an indigene of the state.
