Alicia Miles Olatuja, (who is) best known for her performance at U.S President Barrack Obama’s inauguration in 2013, is billed to perform at an intimate event on the 1st and 2nd of August, 2014 in Lagos next month , courtesy the Lagos Jazz Series in their tradition of offering entertainment in Nigeria.
The American vocalist married to Nigeria-born bassist Michael Olatuja will headline the LJS mid-year event which is taking place at La Scala at the Muson Centre, as part of the Abyssinian Jazz Vespers, led by Multi-Grammy Award winning drummer, Ulysses Owens Jr., Xavier Davis an accomplished pianist, composer and arranger, and James Davis Jr. a classical, jazz and contemporary music enthusiast.
It will be an intimate cocktail that will have in attendance government dignitaries, corporate executives and professionals, media practitioners and culture advocates.
Also to headline is prolific British-Nigerian jazz and soul artiste, Ola Onabule, whose band will perform for the first time in Nigeria after many years of selling out tours across Europe. “We are really proud to welcome Ola home. This will be his first concert in his native land and we consider it an honour to be the platform for this historic event,” Oti Bazunu, founder of Lagos Jazz Series, said.
The Lagos Jazz Series brings together international and local artistes to create a celebration of music for a few days in Lagos each year. The series is the biggest ever live music festival in Nigeria, and organizers hope it will gradually put the city of Lagos on the map as a destination city for Jazz, music and entertainment. LJS is an annual music festival which holds in Nigeria in the month of November, and has been running since 2010.
