Mrs Fidelia Njeze, the Special Adviser to the President on NEPAD says NEPAD African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), has the sole mandate to monitor elections for good governance.

Njeze told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview on Wednesday in Abuja that good governance was a major programme of NEPAD and APRM.

She said that NEPAD APRM monitored the Ekiti election and had produced a report.

“NEPAD is not a local office but an international office and all our activities are reported to the continental offices.

“After the election, we have the mandate to send the report of the election to our continental office,’’ Njeze said.

She said that the APRM mechanism was a mechanism to monitor election.

“The APRM has four thematic areas; political and democratic governance, economic management and governance, economic development and corporate governance.

“These four APRM thematic areas are the core areas of governance,’’ she said.

Njeze said that there were over 34 APRM countries, adding that four more countries joined the APRM recently during the AU summit in Malawi.

“APRM monitors the economic development activities of these countries based on the reports they have produced.

“Nigeria is currently undergoing a second APRM country review which, if successfully concluded will make her the first APRM member state to be peer reviewed for a second time,’’ he said. (NAN)
