Port Harcourt – Chief Ernest Elochukwu, a former Captain of the Tennis Section of Port Harcourt Club, has urged the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) to renew the contract of Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi.
Elochukwu on Tuesday in Port Harcourt said that Keshi was an outstanding coach who did well for the national team.
“The news that the NFA is trying to re-engage Stephen Keshi as the Super Eagles coach is a step in the right direction.
“Contrary to some people’s opinion about Keshi’s performance, I am of the view that the coach has improved on Nigeria’s performance in the World Cup.
“The Super Eagles under Keshi, really tried to do better than what they achieved in previous World Cup outings,’’ he said.
Elochukwu said that renewing Keshi’s contract would ensure continuity in the nation’s football.
“There are budding stars emerging in our football. It is expected that if Keshi’s contract is renewed, he will blend the players and make us have a formidable team in the future,’’ he said.
The former tennis captain said Keshi ‘s outing with the Eagles in Brazil was better than that of some European technical advisers and managers whose teams did not go beyond the first round. (NAN)
