ABAKALIKI – UNKNOWN gunmen in Abakaliki metropolis, Thursday morning, kidnapped the majority leader of Ebony State House of Assembly, Hon. Samuel Nwali.

Vanguard learnt that he was kidnapped at his residence at Watchman Street in Abakaliki

The House member, who represents Ikwo South State Constituency is believed to be a strong supporter of the Speaker-elect, Hon. Helen Nwobasi.

However, a member representing Afikpo South East, Eni Uduma Chima confirmed the incident.

A source who pleaded anonymity said Nwali’s kidnap may not be unconnected with the crisis rocking the House of Assembly over the impeachment of the former Speaker, Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku last Monday.

His rescue

Meantime, the House member was rescued by security operatives around 9:30am yesterday.

Vanguard gathered that the victim was rescued around the boundaries between Ikwo Local Government Area and Cross River State.

Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State was at the premises of the Ebonyi Directorate of State Services, DSS, to see the victim, Hon. Sam Nwali.

Also at the command were members of the State House of Assembly who are loyal to the Speaker-elect.

As at the time of this report, it was gathered that arrangements were on to transfer Nwali from the DSS headquarters to a private hospital were he could be given intensive medical treatment.
