Lagos—FORMER Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Chairman, Organisation and Mobilisation Committee, PDP, South West, Prince Buruji Kashamu yesterday traded words over who was working for President Goodluck Jonathan’s perceived second term election in 2015.
While Daniel said the Labour Party, LP, had resolved to back the President’s perceived ambition, Kashamu argued that it was a plan to mislead the people of Ogun State.
At a briefing in Lagos, Daniel expressed optimism that President Jonathan would receive the backing of LP in the 2015 poll.
The former governor said his resolve to rally his party to back Jonathan was based on his conviction that the president remained a better option in the current circumstances, notwithstanding the security challenges facing the country.
He said “I am working for him because I am looking at the terrain. Right now, within the challenges facing him as president, he is better supported. If anybody has a better option, he should come out with it. The president has been a high performer. It is a matter of perception. There was a time some people said that look OGD, if you tar roads with gold, we are not going to vote for you. It all depends on people’s perception.”
In his reaction, Kashamu, while faulting Daniel’s remarks alleged that the “statement is part of the grand plot by Daniel to hoodwink and mislead the people of Ogun State. Daniel has had his time when he ruled the state for eight years and simple discretion would require that he quit the stage, or at best, play the role of an elder statesman. He should be told in unmistakeable terms that so long as he continues to play his divisive politics of promoting LP, he should leave PDP out of his political flirting.”
