WARRI—MEINBUTU, an Ijaw advocacy group in Warri, Delta State, weekend, said that the national conference had done more harm than good to the Ijaw ethnic nationality with the non-approval of a new state for the ethnic group.

In a statement by Ebis Moni and others, the group slammed the confab committee that discountenanced the agitation for a new Ijaw State, saying: “Our people have been demanding the creation of Toru-Ebe and Oil River states in the last 40 years.

“We thought the essence of the ongoing confab was to correct anomalies in the country for peaceful coexistence, but the confab committee’s recommendation on state creation does not go down well with the Ijaws.”
