Abuja – Glo Premier League side Bayelsa United of Yenagoa and Gateway FC of Abeokuta will now face off on Friday at the FIFA Goal Project pitch in Abuja.
The 2014 Men’s Federation Cup Round of 16 match, earlier scheduled for Thursday, was moved by 24 hours after Gateway FC appealed to the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) for time.
The Nigeria National League (NNL) clubside said they needed time for the game, after playing an NNL Group A match with Go-Round FC of Port Harcourt in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
“We have decided to move the match to Friday at the same venue, since Bayelsa United FC raised no objection to the appeal,” Ruth David, Head of NFA’s Federation Cup Unit, said on Thursday.
Speaking on the development, Gateway FC’s Media Officer, Biodun Alabi, said the Abeokuta-based club needed time to travel to Abuja for the Federation Cup match.
“We only played on Tuesday in Abeokuta, and we needed to rest for a day (on Wednesday) before moving on Thursday to Abuja.
“In fact, we could not even rest totally, as we had to leave Abeokuta on Wednesday and arrived in Lokoja to stay the night and head to Abuja on Thursday,’’ he said.
Alabi however said his team was set for the game and were hopeful of a good result on Friday.
All the other seven matches in the Round of 16 of the competition were slated for Thursday.(NAN)
