Lagos - Chief Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday urged political leaders to provide good governance at the grassroots.
Tinubu spoke at the inauguration of the newly-constructed Itire-Ikate Local Government Secretariat in Surulere, Lagos.
“We must lift our people, lift them out of poverty, educate them to break the shackles of poverty and ignorance.
“We must free them from unemployment, provide them with basic amenities and give them hope for the future,” said Tinubu, who was represented by Mr Femi Pedro, a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
He said leaders should strive to address these challenges.
Tinubu urged council officials to carry out their duties in accordance with established ethics.
Also speaking, the State Deputy Governor, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, promised the administration’s responsiveness to the needs of people at the grassroots.
She urged residents to continue to live in peace, harmony, be tolerant of one another and cooperate with the government in the discharge of its responsibilities.
She also urged them to be security conscious and report any suspicious movement or gathering to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
Orelope-Adefulire advised officials of the council to imbibe maintenance culture that would encourage the government to do more.
Earlier, the Chairman of Itire-Ikate Council, Mr Hakeem Bamgbola, promised more development in the area.(NAN)
