An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded a 23-year-old man, Isiaka Amoo, at Ikoyi Prisons over alleged armed robbery.
The Magistrate, Miss O. Ope-Aigbe, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody until July 21, pending advice from the office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.
Amoo of No. 326, Agbede Road, Ijanikin area of Lagos, is facing charges of conspiracy and robbery.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Haruna Ibrahim, told the court that the accused conspired with others now at large at 4.00 a.m. on March 31 at J5 Arena in Seme Border, to commit the offence.
He said the accused and his accomplices while armed with a gun, robbed one Ms Collet Adewale of a Dell Laptop, 43 different cell phones and an unspecified number of recharge cards, all valued at N294,000.
Ibrahim also alleged that at 11.00 a.m. on April 1 at Gbaji Village along Seme-Badagry Road, Amoo unlawfully had in his possession a locally made gun and two live cartridges.
He said that the illegal firearm had no licence or permit, issued by the inspector-general of police.
According to the prosecution, the offences contravene Sections 295, 296(3) and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 295 prescribes a sentence of death for anyone found guilty of the offence of armed robbery.
The plea of the accused was not taken. (NAN)
