No fewer than 7.3 million illegal posters are pasted in Lagos state annually for various reasons.
Managing Director of the Lagos State Advertising and Signage Agency, LASAA, Mr. George Noah, disclosed this recently in Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.
Noah said that pasting of posters on street walls and public facilities in Lagos state is illegal, saying “we will not allow the state to be defaced with posters.”
According to him, “ on the average, 20, 000 posters are illegally deployed in Lagos daily. And it is our responsibility as an agency to remove them.”
The LASAA boss lamented that if the posters are removed today, the next day another set are deplored.
“As the 2015 election draws near, the number increases. When there is no election, religious organizations and Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs who couldn’t afford billboard advert, paste posters across the state. And what the election does is to add to this.
“The task isn’t just enforcement or removal but also to apprehend anyone found pasting it. The more people we are able to arrest, the more they will know that it isn’t a good enterprise anymore. Aside apprehending those who illegally paste posters, the state government has decided to introduce the special poster boards,” he added.
He further explained that new boards will be erected at designated places in each council for residents to paste their posters.
“The decision on the special poster boards was based on our research in other Megacities across the world. We discovered that the erection of these boards was what they used to solve the challenge of pasting posters in their countries.”
