OSOGBO—A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, Mr. Olalekan Banjo has dragged Governor Rauf Aregbesola and the leadership of the party before a Federal High Court in Osogbo, to challenge Aregbesola’s emergence as the candidate of the party in the August 9 Governorship election.
Mr. Banjo, who was a governorship aspirant of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, before the merger of the party with others to form APC, said he had since the formation of APC declared his intention to contest the governorship election on the platform of the party.
Joined in the suit are Chief Niyi Adebayo, the acting National Vice Chairman of the APC, Mr Adelowo Adebiyi, acting chairman of the APC and the Independent National Election Commission, INEC.
Banjo told newsmen in Osogbo that both the governor and the leadership of the party had been served the court notice.
Reacting to the development, the APC’s Director of Publicity and Strategy, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, said the party would be interested in meeting Banjo in the court, noting that he was only entertaining his loyalists through the legal action.
Oyatomi added that Banjo was not known as a committed party member, but only seeking relevance with his action.
