Lagos – President Goodluck Jonathan has been commended for his unrelenting interest in all the country’s national football teams.
The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) said on Wednesday in a statement in Abuja that the association’s President, Aminu Maigari, lauded the “special love’’ the president had shown to the teams.
The statement by NFA’s Assistant Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, said Maigari, assured Nigerians that the Super Eagles would do the nation and the continent proud at the 20th FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“Our President has once more shown his love for our football by sending the Minister and Chairman, National Sports Commission (NSC), Tamuno Danagogo with a special message to the Eagles in London.
“His spirit is always with the teams, even when he is not physically there. I’m sure the players will repay this abiding love when they get to Brazil,” it quoted Maigari as saying.
The statement added that the sports minister told the players and technical crew that President Jonathan would be in Brazil once they earn a place in the last eight.
Eagles’ best outing at the FIFA World Cup finals remains the Round of 16 berths in USA 1994 and France 1998.
According to the statement, we also remember how the president has rewarded all the national teams handsomely anytime they did the nation proud.
“We are assuring President Jonathan, his administration and the generality of Nigerians that the Eagles will again do Nigeria and Africa proud in Brazil,” it said. (NAN)
