KADUNA — The Northern Elders Council, NEC, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan and the international community for uniting against the murderous activities of Boko Haram and other terrorists in the country and asked Nigerians to join hands with Jonathan to combat the menace.

This was contained in a communique signed by the spokesman of the NEC, Ambassador Yusuf Mamman after its meeting called to review recent activities of insurgents in the country.

The communique read: “The NEC has reviewed the recent upsurge in the dastardly and murderous activities of Boko Haram insurgents and terrorists in our country, particularly the bomb explosions in Nyanya and abduction of more than 200 girls from their school in Chibok, Borno State, and hereby make the following statement:

“NEC applauds the outpouring of concerns and support for Nigeria by countries and groups across the world in respect of the kidnap of the Chibok schoolgirls and bring the insurgency to an end.
“Calls on all Nigerians to rally round President Goodluck Jonathan and support the efforts that he and his government are making so that together our country may overcome the security challenges it is facing.

“Urges all Nigerians, particularly the political class, not to make any political capitals out of the current unfortunate situation, but rather should rise up to the task of defending our motherland so that our people will enjoy peace and posperity. They should, therefore, join hands with President Jonathan in this patriotic fight against terrorism and insurgency in general.

“Reiterates our condemnation of terrorism in all its ramifications and salutes the resolve and determination of all Nigerians, especially our security forces in rising up against those that spread destruction and mayhem in our land. The security forces should re-double their efforts so that the abducted girls are re-united with their families.

“Urges all Nigerians to be extra vigilant and report suspicious movements to the authorities as security should be a matter of concern to all patriotic citizens.”
