LAGOS—LAGOS State Government yesterday released burial arrangements for the late former Governor of Lagos State, Sir Michael Otedola, with a special farewell ceremony, tagged, “Day of Tributes”, fixed for Wednesday, May 28th, 2014.
Former governors of the state, prominent citizens and indigenes of the state are among expected guests to attend the funeral.
Sir Otedola, died on Monday, May 5, 2014, at the age of 88 years after a protracted stroke-related illness.
He was a philanthropist of great repute, a feat that got him Lifetime Achievement Awards from many organisations.
A statement by Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lateef Ibirogba, said as a way of giving a befitting honour and recognition to Otediola, the state government would hold a special farewell ceremony, to commemorate the passage of the great leader in Lagos.
According to Ibirogba, “The state government, which had earlier declared a week of mourning and the lowering of flags at half-mast in respect of the former Governor, has set aside Wednesday, 28th May, 2014 as “Day of Tributes”, for the recognition of the late politician.”
The programme is slated to hold at Onikan Stadium from 10.00 a.m.
Ibirogba said remains of Otedola would lie-in-state at his Epe Odoragunshin residence on Thursday, May 29th, 2014 from 2.40 p.m. while Christian wake-keep would hold at the same venue from 4.00 p.m. that day.
The body would be interred on Friday, May 30th, 2014, after a funeral mass/rites at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ibowon, at 11.00 a.m., after which guests would be hosted to a reception at St. Patrick’s Grammar School, Eredo.
