UMUAHIA—IMO State has won the 2014 South East zonal secondary schools quiz competition organised by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
The state scored 60 points, while Anambra State came second with 50 points, followed by Enugu State, which garnered 45 points.
Ebonyi and Abia states scored 30 and 25 points respectively to come forth and fifth.
Imo was represented by three students from Living Word Academy Secondary School, Nkwere, and Christ the King Grammar School, Okigwe.
Speaking on the occasion held at Ibeku High School, Umuahia, Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Monica Philips, commended NNPC for the annual quiz competition which, according to her, has helped immensely in the promotion of high standard of education in the country.
She also noted that the corporation had saved some parents the burden of paying school fees through scholarships.
Earlier in his address, the Group General Manager, Public Affairs of the NNPC, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, explained that the corporation embarked on the quiz competition, recognising education as the foundation on which nations were built.
Represented by Sonny Odiete, Alegbe said the quiz competition was one of the many ways which NNPC touched the lives of Nigerians.
