Court acquits man who assaulted girlfriend’s lover with cutlass

Lagos – A Magistrates’ court in Tinubu, Lagos State on Thursday discharged and acquitted a man, Kingsley Edoho,25, who assaulted his girlfriend’s lover with a cutlass.

Delivering judgment, Magistrate Yetunde Pinheiro, discharged the accused for lack of evidence from the police.

Pinheiro also said in discharging Edoho, the court took into consideration the defence of the accused person that he committed the offence in self defence.

“The court discharges and acquits Edoho of the charges.

“You must know that because you paraded yourself in a manner likely to breach peace, you are under strict vigilance for the next two years.

“If you get involved in any fight, the court will not hesitate to put you in jail.” Pinheiro said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Edoho on his first arraignment on July 4, 2013, pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of assault with a cutlass on one Monday Ekhator a police officer.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Ignatus Okeke, said that the offence was committed on July 2,2013 at about 7.30 a.m., at Global Road Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

Okeke said that the offences contravened Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011

He said that the two found out that they were dating the same woman and they confronted themselves.

He said the arguments broke into a fight with Ekhator breaking a block on Edoho’s head.

Edoho, during trial insisted that he used the cutlass to defend himself. (NAN)
