PORT HARCOURT: THE seeming war of words between the Supervising Minister of Education, Mr Nyesom Wike and governor Chibuike Amaechi has taken a twist with the latter accusing the governor of being corrupt.
Wike who made the allegation when Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs in Ogu/Bolu local government area visited him at his residence in Port Harcourt said the governor was running a corrupt government.
Recalled that governor Amaechi had last weekend accused the Minister of being a betrayal, claiming that the Minister lied after allegedly swearing in the name of his children not to betray him (governor ) if made a minister.
Meantime, Mr Wike said the governor was corrupt and was leading a corrupt government.
“Amaechi is corrupt and running a government that is also corrupt”.
“Governor Amaechi is not as transparent as he claims to be. He wants Nigerians to see him as a social crusader who is always ready to expose and criticize officials and agencies of the federal government at any given time but he is not a saint. Governor Amaechi knows that I know he is corrupt and he knows that I know him very well”.
“Most people forget that I was Governor Amaechi’s Chief of Staff for four years, from 2007 to 2011. Most people also pretend to forget that I was also Governor Amaechi’s director of campaign for the 2011 governorship election. So, I can conveniently claim to know Governor Amaechi more than most people know him”.
“In April last year, Governor Amaechi threatened to expose the shady dealings of all those who were fighting him politically. Of course, I was the first on the list. That same week, I replied him that I will respond immediately he mentions anything concerning me. Up till now, he has not said anything. He keeps threatening that he will expose me. It is over a year he made that threat, so what is he waiting for? Wike asked.
“I will expose Governor Amaechi at the appropriate time. I will expose the level of corruption in his government at the appropriate time. Governor Amaechi’s aides know that I am not unaware of the shady dealings in Amaechi’s administration. I challenge him to speak up”.
Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Mr Tony Okocha when told to comment on the allegation that his principal was corrupt and running a corrupt government, said it was unfortunate that the Minister left issues to be discussing persons.
“How come the minister who was Governor Amaechi’s campaign director in 2011 and spoke so glowingly about Governors achievements as a governor is now the one splashing mud on the same man he eulogized a few years back. We will not join issue with Wike. We understand his politics, so we are not perturbed”
