ABUJA— POLICEMEN at the security gate of the National Assembly, NASS, yesterday manhandled an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, over his alleged refusal to submit himself for security checks at the entrance of the complex.
Trouble started when the NSCDC officer who drove a Toyota Camry without number plate tried to drive into the National Assembly but was stopped at the Mopol gate of the complex.
An eye witness told Vanguard that the Civil Defence officer had identified himself as a staff of NSCDC but when asked to provide his identification card he was unable to do so.
Consequently, Police made efforts to stop him claiming that he could pose security threat.
But the Civil Defence officer struggled to drive in and even caused traffic hold up. In the process a truck belonging to Julius Berger hit a car which was driving into the complex.
Unluckily for him, attempts to beat the second Police post met with stiff resistance and in his desperate efforts to have his way, Policemen numbering over five descended on him.
His car was impounded while he was dragged inside the complex.
