Fenerbahce striker Emmanuel Emenike has made good his promise to support the family of late soccer star Samuel Okwaraji.

Okwaraji died while in active service for Nigeria in a 1990 FIFA World Cup game against Angola at the National Stadium Lagos on August 12, 1989.

Late Samuel Okwaraji’s brother, Patrick Okwaraji, told AfricanFootball.com Emenike has redeemed his promise, which they deeply appreciate.

”We received with a deep sense of appreciation the gift from Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike,” Patrick Okwaraji said.

“The gift channeled through the Samuel Okwaraji Foundation will be used to fund the refurbishing of the late soccer star’s mausoleum, built 25 years ago by the Government but now in a very bad state.

”In view of the fact that the site is somewhat a tourist spot and more so necessary as preparations for the 25th anniversary are on-going. This gift comes at a good time.

“This is a unique gesture from Emenike. We shall continue to pray and wish him well.”
