Abuja – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday said it had begun investigation into the suspected cases of cholera outbreak in Mpape area of Abuja.
The Director of the centre, Prof. Nasidi Abdulsalam, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that sample from affected people had been collected for laboratory test.
Mpape is a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, the situation will not be declared as an outbreak until the laboratory result is out.
“The NCDC has sent its team of personnel to investigate it to confirm if it is actually cholera or something else.
“For now, we cannot say it is outbreak of cholera as the result has yet to be confirmed.
“However, the situation is under control,’’ he said.
Abdulsalam assured the people of the area that the centre would do its best to control the situation.
He advised members of the public to always drink water safe for human consumption. (NAN)
