Police raid Oyo PDP guber aspirant’s office over arms, arrest 25

IBADAN — THE Oyo State Police Command has raided the Ibadan campaign office of Seyi Makinde, a governorship aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 elections where about 25 of his supporters were arrested.

Vanguard gathered that the office was raided following a petition that arms and ammunition were stored there.

The Iwo Road office was raided by a combination of security men from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and Operation Burst, who were fully armed.

During the raid that lasted for one hour, women and men including a pastor were whisked away by the policemen.

An Ibadan High Chief, Senator Lekan Balogun, who is also a PDP chieftain described the raid as violation of the rights of the innocent people.

To him, police ought to have told the Department of State Services, DSS, to carry out surveillance to know if it was true that arms were actually there before the raid.

Speaking on the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olabisi Ilobanafor, confirmed that police arrested 26 miscreants at the campaign office of the politician based on information that the people always engage in criminal activities and that they were with arms and ammunition.

She said they got bench warrant before storming the office. According to her, the 26 people were arrested and taken to Criminal Investigation Department, where they made statements.

She said they were released on bail as nothing incriminating was found on them.
