Asaba— AN Asaba high court in Delta State has fixed May 15 to deliver judgment in a N3 billion suit instituted by 63 residents of the state against the Nigerian Army over illegal arrest and detention during the search for the kidnappers of Professor Kamene Okonjo, mother of the Minister of Finance, Prof. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

The court scheduled judgment after the parties exchanged papers and made submissions on point of law.
Warrant Officer, Ojo Yahaya of Headquarters, 2 Division Nigerian Army, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment Odogbo, Ibadan, in a counter-affidavit opposing the applicants’ Motion on Notice stated that “the commandant of the 4 Brigade Military Headquarters, Benin, referred to in the affidavit is not one of the legally recognised officers of the Nigerian Army and that President Goodluck Jonathan did not at any time give an ultimatum to the Nigerian Army or any of its legally recognised officers to fish out the kidnappers of Mrs. Kamene Okonjo.”
