Mararaba – The police on Tuesday arraigned a barber, Godtime Sunday, 27, in an Upper Area Court in Mararraba, Nasarawa State, for abducting an 11-year old girl.
Sunday, who resides in New Nyanya, Nasarawa State, is arraigned on two counts of criminal force and kidnapping.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Jospeh Ahua, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘A’ Division Police Station by the mother of the girl, Mrs Gift Okoro, on March 14.
Ahua said the accused abducted the minor and hid her in his salon for two days, from March 14 to 15.
He told the court that when the mother of the girl, asked him about the whereabouts of her daughter, the accused assaulted her.
Ahua said the offence contravened sections 265 and 273 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, the prosecutor said, he faced 10 years in prison, an option of fine or both.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The presiding judge, Mr Vincent Gwehemba, admitted the accused to bail for N20,000, with one surety.
Gwehemba also ordered that the surety must deposit two passport photographs.
He adjourned the case to March 31 for hearing. (NAN)
