WARRI—THE death of two lawyers, Mr. H. Eguno Dafiaghor and Mr. Samuel Ekuwangi, on Ozoro-Asaba Expressway, Delta State, on March 27, has generated fresh controversy in the state, following different accounts of how they died.

Dafiaghor, said to be the Principal Partner of Whytfort Jurisconsult law firm in Ovwian, and his junior, were on their way to the state High Court, Ozoro, for a ruling when they were allegedly killed.
There were unconfirmed reports, yesterday, that the lawyers were killed by security agents, while another source said that the killers were gunmen dressed in mobile police uniform.

National Coordinator of Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence, FJHD, Delta State, Mr. Oghenejabor Ikimi, told Vanguard on the incident: “There are many versions to the murder. Some persons say that the duo were killed by gunmen dressed in mobile police uniform. What is clear to me is that the duo were assassinated.

“I wonder why some persons would want to kill an innocent lawyer performing his professional duties. The above case of assassination no doubt is senseless, barbaric and satanic. We call on the Inspector General of Police to order a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the murder to unmask the perpetrators of the heinous crime as Nigerians are tired of cases of unresolved murder in our polity.

“If the theory that the duo were murdered as a result of the high profile case they were handling at the state High Court, Ozoro, is anything to go by, I believe that eliminating them was senseless as common sense would have dictated that another lawyer could possibly be briefed to take over the said case even with the demise of the duo,” he said.
