IF there is any aspect of the Super Eagles that can win the World Cup for Nigeria, that part will definitely be the goalkeeping department.

This was the view of  former Nigeria captain and first choice goalkeeper, Peter Rufai in a chat with Saturday Vanguard Sports.

Rufai expressed confidence in the ability of goalkeepers Vincent Enyeama and Austin Ejide to lead the Eagles to victory in Brazil.

“I can tell you categorically that the goalkeeping department will be key to Super Eagles campaign in Brazil because Enyeama and Ejide are in the form of their lives. They are good, experienced and  dependable,” Rufai, who was fondly called Dodomayana in his active days, said.

He said the goalkeepers’ skills were being enhanced by the sound technical hands in the bench and with adequate training, the sky will be their limit.

“Ike Shorunmu was a first grade goalkeeper and he has been doing a lot to keep these guys in top shape whenever they are in the national camp. I believe the three weeks or so they will work together before the World Cup will be crucial.”

Asked to choose his number one between Enyeama and Ejide, Rufai hesitated. When he offered to speak he said, “independently, they are fantastic goalkeepers. Both of them have been to the World Cup. It is not something I can sentimentally say it is Ejide or Enyeama. It  all depends on current form. The form they will show will determine who I choose as number one.”
