BENIN CITY—GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, has said that the contract for the 5-star Central Hospital project in Benin City, which was suspended due to technical problems in 2012, had been re-awarded to Messrs S & A Construction Company.

Speaking with newsmen on the project, he said it will be completed within nine months, adding that the contractor will be mobilised to site so as to commence work in the next 14 days.
The hospital had suffered a setback about two years ago, when parts of the structure collapsed after it was hit by a construction crane. A construction worker died in the accident.

Oshiomhole, while inspecting projects in  Benin City, said “just last week, the state government decided to direct the new construction company handling the project to go back to site and resume work. Again, even before now, the work had been redesigned before it was re-awarded because we know that the project, when completed will be another signature of this administration and we are doing everything possible to encourage the new contractor to meet the new deadline.

“I think from the assurance given by the contractor, hopefully by next week, they will start work and in the next nine months to one year from now, the job will be completed. Not only will the complex be competed, but it will be equipped with the state of the art facilities because government had concluded plans with foreign expatriates that will supply the equipment needed, so that patients here will have no reasons to go abroad for treatment.”
