A Senior Special Adviser to Bayelsa State Governor on Ijaw National Affairs, Mr. Erasmus Patrick, has urged delegates from Ijaw ethnic extraction at the on-going national conference to address the polarisation and balkanisation of the Ijaws.
Patrick, speaking at Godspower Oporomo Educational Academy second inter-house sports competition in Bomadi, Delta State, while fielding questions from newsmen, said: “In some areas where the Ijaws are found, especially Edo State, they don’t have a voice and have been divided into insignificant political units, and cannot even produce a councilor.”
He enjoined delegates from the South-South region to press for the repeal of obnoxious laws such as the Land Use Act, which had deprived the region of their God-given land and resources.
He said that the deliberations at the national conference should be subjected to a referendum where a larger group involving every ethnic nationality would endorse same.
He also disabused the minds of Nigerians, who are of the view that it was the duty of the National Assembly to endorse whatever had been discussed at the conference, adding that if that happens, the entire process would be a futility.
