Chevron spends $1.7m to fight HIV/AIDS in Bayelsa

Yenagoa—Chevron Nigeria Limited says it will spend $1.7million to facilitate the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS in Bayelsa State.

Chairman/Managing Director, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Andrew Fawthrop at the launch of the company’s PROMOT Project Expansion in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, said the fund was for the expansion of the PROMOT Project in all the local government areas of the state. He was represented by the company’s Area Manager, Mr. Joe Fawthrop.

He said “The additional funding support of $1.7m will facilitate the expansion of PROMOT project in all the councils in the state.”
He recalled that a 2010 National HIV zero-prevalence sentinel survey placed Bayelsa State as the third highest in Nigeria with 9.1 per cent.
