Benue killings: We must go back to our homes, Suswam tells displaced persons

Ayilamo (Benue)- Gov. Gabriel Suswam of Benue on Thursday warned people against playing  politics with  the lingering crisis between farmers and herdsmen in parts of the state stating emphatically, “We must go back to our homes and exhibit high level of discipline.”

Suswam said this at Ayilamo, Logo Local Government area, while addressing displaced people in the area.

“We are a peace loving people historically and we will always ensure that peace and unity prevail and our brothers living among us,” he said.

“Stop making politics on the ongoing attacks and killings of innocent people in the state.

He assured the affected people of government’s assistance to ameliorate their sufferings.

“There is no way the government will abandon you at this point in time. We will do everything to provide protection.

Earlier in his speech, Mr Emmanuel Udende, a member representing Sankera Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, said members of the Assembly from the state had resolved to take up the matter with President Goodluck Jonathan.

Udende said their decision was aimed at finding possible ways to stop the ongoing attacks on innocent people.

In his welcome address, the Chairman, Logo Local Government Area, Mr Keister Kyenger, urged people in the area to be calm as government was taking necessary measures to resolve the issue.  (NAN)
