Alleged threat on Tompolo: suspects to remain in prison custody till April 30

WARRI—A Warri South Chief Magistrate, Mr E.Odjugo in Delta State, has further directed that the eight accused persons, alleged to have threatened to kill Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo)  be remanded in prison till April 30, 2014.

Magistrate Odjugo also ordered the amended case file to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
The accused, Mr. Michael Johnny, Mr Anthony Ikpesan, Mr Moscow Johnny, Mr Imole Johnny, Mr Messio German, Mr Bullet Otuaro, Mr Alex Governor and Mr Christmas Ikare, were first arraigned on February 24 and 25, 2014 in two batches. The two charges have however, been consolidated.

This development was sequel to the application for substitution of charge by the prosecuting counsel.
Prosecution said that the purpose of harmonising the charges into one was for convenience sake.
The accused and others now at large are being tried on a three-count charge of conspiracy, threat to life and breach of peace.

The prosecution alleged that the accused persons, conspired to kill Ekpemupolo on Janruary 23, 2014, adding that a text message was sent by the suspects on February 3, threatening to kill the complainant.
