Abuja — House of Representatives Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal and Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe, has restated Nigeria’s commitment to the development and success of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, LCBC.
They gave the assurance, weekend, in Abuja at the inaugural meeting of Speakers/Presidents of National Assemblies of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, LCBC, member states.
On Nigeria’s support to the committee of parliaments of member states of the Basin, Tambuwal said the commission’s secretariat in Abuja had been “provided by the House of Representatives of Nigeria. I am pleased to inform you that I have made a promise to facilitate the rehabilitation of the RPC Secretariat to make it fully functional and befitting as soon as the agreement is signed.”
In her address, Minister of Water Resources, said Nigeria granted $5 million out of the $6 million required to carry out the feasibility study on the Inter Basin Water Transfer from Ubangui River to Lake Chad to recharge the receding lake.
Ochekpe spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resouces, Baba Umar.
