The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe on Wednesday urged state-owned media organisations,to give all political parties and their candidates equal opportunities.

The demand is contained in a statement issued by Mr Ibrahim Yusuf, Media Assistant to the state PDP Chairman, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu.

The statement quoted Alhaji Lawan Karasuwa, the state chairman of the party, as saying that the state owned radio and television stations should abide by the ethics of the profession.

“They should discharge their duties without fear or favour, irrespective of the political party in office.

“These media outfits are paid and serviced with public funds, and should open the doors of their services to all,” Karasuwa advised.

The statement also reminded the electronic media that their operations must be guided by the code of the National Broadcasting Commission.

Reacting to the statement, the General Manager of Yobe Broadcasting Corporation, Alhaji Ibrahim Daciya, told NAN that they had been doing their best to reflect all sides.

“Whoever has any message to pass across, is always given the opportunity, but we are also guided by the ethics of our profession to display absolute sense of responsibility,” he said. (NAN)
