LAGOS — A mother of three, Obiageri Oriuwa, has been arraigned in Ebute Metta court before Ms B. Okunsanya over alleged killing of her brother-in-law at 54, Ladega Street, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos.
The 37-year-old deceased, Ikechukwu Oriuwa, was said to have had an argument with the defendant over a generating set that she left on overnight.
According to reports, the house would have been razed but for the timely intervention of some neighbours.
Counsel to the accused, C. J. Okoro, said the incident happened while Obiageri was struggling to free herself from the grip of her brother-in-law who was beating her, held her by the throat not allowing her to breathe.
He said: “In self defence, she ended up stabbing him by the hand so that she could escape his grip.”
While the deceased family’s counsel, Ken Konze, said Obiageri killed the deceased, who was a medical doctor purposely and not in self defence.
He stated: “After the oral exchange between the two of them, Obiageri waited for him behind a vehicle, from where she attacked him by thrusting a knife into him.”
After listerning to both the counsel and prosecutor, Okunsanya ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
She adjourned the case till March 19, 2014.
