OWERRI — The Minister of External Affairs, Professor Viola Onwuliri, has described as most uncharitable for Governor Rochas Okorocha to accuse the Federal Government of marginalising Imo State when the billions of Naira accruing to the state from the Federation Account were being wasted on frivolities and white elephant projects.
Professor Onwuliri, who stated this, yesterday, while fielding questions from journalists, in Owerri, reiterated her earlier demand that the governor rendered full account of all monies that had accrued to the state since he came on board.
“Why would the governor embark on white elephant projects that have no economic value to the citizenry? White elephant projects merely attract cheap credibility,” Onwuliri said.
She recalled that billions of Naira that had accrued to the 27 local councils were today being administered without elected council officials, adding that the general hospitals said to have been completed by Okorocha’s administration were not functional.
The minister said: “It is no longer news that billions of Naira accruing to the 27 local governments in the state are being administered without elected local council officials.
“Similarly, the general hospitals the Governor claimed he completed have remained non-functional till date.”
While insisting that health centres had remained moribund and comatose, Professor Onwuliri said Okorocha could not continue to accuse President Goodluck Jonathan of marginalising the state when federal presence was everywhere in the state.
