The APC senatorial aspirant and a former House of Representatives member, Hon Samaila  Ahmed who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at his residence at Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi state has been released.

Hon Samaila Ahmed  abducted on Monday 17th February was released to his family members on Friday night after spending five days in hands of his captors.

It was learnt that the abductors demanded a ransom of N6.5m from Hon Ahmed’ family but the family finally paid a ransom of N2.5m to the abductors before the release of the former Repsmember.

When contacted, the Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the Bauchi State Police Command, DSP Haruna Mohammed confirmed the release but was silent on the ransom paid by the family members.

He said “the kidnapped former House of Reps member, Hon Samaila Ahmed Ilali was released by his captors in Darazo last night at about 23.30 hours and he his in stable condition. Investigation is still ongoing”.

A security source who spoke on condition of anonymity express anger over the ransom paid to the captors saying the family members of Hon Ahmed did not cooperate with security operatives.

He said “we are not happy with the ransom paid to the criminals that kidnapped Hon Ahmed and this happen because of non-operation from his family members and there are lot of implications about this because paying of ransom will encourage  more kidnap attempt in the state”.

Meanwhile, the Publicity Secretary All Progressive Congress (APC) youth vanguard in the state, Alhaji Naziru Ibrahim Darazo has expressed  disappointment over the way and manner the kidnap case of Hon Ahmed was handled saying the state government did not support or commiserate with the family members in search of their son.

He said “no effort was made by the state government when Hon Ahmed, a citizen of Bauchi state and former House of Reps members was kidnapped and this does not speak well for our democracy government. I remembered when Governor Yuguda’s Inlaw, Alhaji Mohammed Sade and the son of the deputy Chief of Staff  to the Governor, Garba Dahiru were kidnapped, the state government  commiserated and supported the family until they were released”.

It would be recalled that unknown  gunmen  at the early hour of Monday kidnapped Hon Samaila Ahmed at his residence in Darazo Local Government area of Bauchi state.
Alhaji Samaila Ahmed was former House of Representatives that represented Darazo Constituency from 2007 to 2011.

It was learnt that Samaila Ahmed is aspiring to contest for the Senate to represent Bauchi Central Senatorial district under All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2015.
