LAGOS — One Christian Ifeanyi Samuel was yesterday remanded in Ikoyi prison by an Ebute Meta magistrate’s court for the murder of his 26‑year‑old girlfriend.
According to Inspector G. Osuji, the prosecutor, Samuel was angry with his girlfriend after he learnt she was dating another man.
On January 11, 2014, 23‑year-old Samuel took Ijeoma Nwachukwu, the deceased, to an hotel located around Abule‑Oshun where he killed her.
After lodging in the hotel, Samuel forced Nwachukwu to drink liquid substance suspected to be acid which led to her death.
On carrying out the unlawful act and exiting the scene, the hotel manager, Kehinde Ajibola, questioned Samuel for leaving alone since he came in with a lady, but the accused told Olaitan that he only wanted to get something and that he would be back shortly.
Meanwhile, Samuel did not return as promised, which raised the suspicion of the hotel manager, who decided to check on Nwachukwu and to his surprise found her corpse on the floor of the room.
Instead of reporting the incident to the police, the 64‑year‑old hotel owner directed one Ajibola and Azeez Olaitan to remove the corpse from the hotel.
Olaitan and Ajibola decided to dump the corpse along Mile 2-Badagry Expressway.
However, Sangojumi, Ajibola and Olaitan were accused of conspiracy to commit felony, enabling Samuel to escape arrest and prosecution by unlawfully removing and dumping Nwachukwu’s corpse who to their knowledge was unlawfully killed by Samuel.
After hearing parties involved in the matter, the magistrate, Mr Olatunbosun Abolarinwa ruled that Sangojumo, Ajibola and Olaitan be granted bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties each in like sum, while Samuel be remanded in Ikoyi prison pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
